CHAPTERS IN ACTIONThe Delaware Beta Chapter at Wilmington University had a very active year. In 2015-16 the chapter inducted 40 new members and contributed over 450 service hours to various communities and community projects. The University’s Student Government Association awarded the chapter the Student Clubs Service Award for the second year in a row. Dr. Johanna Bishop, Associate Professor and Director of Behavioral Science Programs, is the chapter sponsor. The Chapter’s team, “Team Pi Gamma Mu”, raised $3,465.00 in Wilmington University’s Polar Bear Plunge. The chapter co-sponsored the event with the Wilmu Alumni Association. Teams plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on February 1, 2015 to help raise funds for the Special Olympics of Delaware. Team Pi Gamma Mu had 15 team members and 94 donors.
Beginning in 2012, the chapter started a Power of Networking event. It has become an annual event co-sponsored by the chapter and the Wilmu Alumni Association. On April 21, 2016, students networked with business and community leaders while learning industry best practices. Topics included mock interviews, dressing for success, developing your elevator speech, how to network, and more. The Delaware Beta Chapter members participated in a variety of other service projects including working with area youth, at their churches, and in community centers. They also worked hand-in-hand with social workers, psychologists, and counsellors to help with intake and assessments. The chapter requires at least 10 hours of volunteer work and many chapter members exceeded that minimum. So, what did they do?
And SOOO Much More! The Pi Gamma Mu Community at Wilmu is AMAZING! The Philippines Alpha Chapter at the University of the Philippines had a stellar year, as usual. The chapter inducted 272 students and 2 faculty members in 2015-16. An induction ceremony was held on May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the UPFI Film Center at the University. Professor Ma. Luisa T. Camagay, Ph.D. is the faculty sponsor and President of the chapter. Professor Elena E. Pernia, Ph.D. is the chapter Vice-President. Among other activities, the chapter provided support to bring Alexander Ken P. Libranza to campus to participate as a panelist in a conference sponsored by the Harvard Project for Asian International Relations 2016 on February 12.
