Grassley2021 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

After much deliberation on the part of the Pi Gamma Mu Awards Committee, the committee's chairperson, Dr. Clara Small, recommended 6 applicants to the Board of Trustees. The Trustees awarded scholarships to the following lifetime members of Pi Gamma Mu: Kristen Renee Moran, Laura Guida, Branson Michael Freeman, Canei Mone’t Hines, James Langford, and Shantecia Lynette Johnson.

2021 CHAPTER HONOR ROLLS

Each year, the Pi Gamma Mu International Board of Trustees recognizes Pi Gamma Mu's most active chapters by placing them on the annual Roll of Distinction (the highest award for chapters), Roll of Merit, and Incentive Chapters (recognizing and encouraging high achievements of Pi Gamma Mu's newest chapters).

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE FEB. 15

Each year, Pi Gamma Mu awards scholarships to outstanding members. Three scholarships are valued at $2,000 each, and the remaining scholarships are valued at $1,000 each. These scholarships are intended for the first or second year of graduate work in the social sciences. If you are interested in applying, you should start putting your information together now.

2021 TOP STUDENT PAPERS

Pi Gamma Mu held its 2021 Triennial Convention online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.  The convention was held on November 3-6, 2021. The convention had most of the features of in-person triennial conventions, with some extra features, and was much more affordable. Student members were encouraged to submit completed social science research papers for presentation consideration at the 2021 Convention. 

2021 AWARDS

During each Pi Gamma Mu Triennial International Convention top chapters, chapter faculty sponsors, top student research paper presenters, and other contributors to Pi Gamma Mu are recognized during the Awards Ceremony.  Although the convention was online this year due to COVID-19, the Awards Ceremony was as exciting as ever and the following chapters and individuals were recognized during an online ceremony.

Museum2021 LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ENJOYS SUCCESS

After postponing last year’s convention due to COVID-19, the Pi Gamma Mu 2021 Virtual Triennial International Convention took place November 3-6, 2021, with the theme “Social Scientists Leading the Way.” For the second time in convention history, participants could attend a Leadership Development program for a modest fee. Pi Gamma Mu board of trustee member, Allison G. S. Knox, directed the seven-hour event. Professor Knox teaches at the American Military University.

TOP 10 CHAPTERS BY MEMBERSHIP

In 2019, the Pi Gamma Mu Board of Trustees decided to recognize the ten chapters that sent in the most new members during the previous fiscal year. The Top 10 Chapters by Membership will receive a certificate recognizing their achievement and contributions to Pi Gamma Mu. It is the collection of the lifetime membership fees from new members that sustains Pi Gamma Mu and its programs.

2021 STAR CHAPTERS

The chapters listed below increased their membership by 20% or more in 2020-2021 as compared to the previous year.  These chapters accomplished this increase in membership despite the unprecedented challenges related to COVID-19 and we congratulate them on their achievement and thank them for their good work.

LIFETIME MEMBER RUNS FOR LOCAL OFFICE IN THE PHILIPPINES

PGMJoebert Flores Padata Jr., lifetime member of Pi Gamma Mu, is running for City Council in his local district in the Philippines.  The election will be held on May 9, 2022.  Padata joined Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Society Social Sciences via the Philippines Alpha Chapter located at the University of the Philippines.  He was inducted during the chapter’s first-ever virtual induction ceremony.  The ceremony was held on August 31, 2020.

NATIONAL SERVICE PROJECT

Chapters are working together to support veterans, the homeless, and animals in animal shelters. Chapters may either choose to do one of the three components of the service project or may choose to participate in all three of the service project components.

MeetingThe Pi Gamma Mu International Board of Trustees held its annual meeting via ZOOM on November 18-19, 2021.  In a typical year, the Trustees meet in person for their annual meeting, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held online in 2020 and 2021.

Pi Gamma Mu is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation and can accept tax-deductible donations.  If you would like to donate to our organization in honor/memory of a professor, sponsor, loved one, or friend, or to support our scholarship program, you are encouraged to do so.  Pi Gamma Mu gives scholarships to students going into a graduate program in social science each year, and much more.

ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETIES

ACHSPi Gamma Mu is one of 70 members of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the authority on standards and definitions for the honor society movement. ACHS has stepped up efforts to alert the higher education community to the standards of traditional honor societies.
