HABIB BAIG, WV IOTA, VOLUNTEERS TO FEED THE HOMELESSHabib Baig, lifetime member of the West Virginia Iota Chapter, volunteered at a Feed the Homeless program in Rockville, MD last month. The program was held at an emergency shelter and was sponsored by the Islamic Center of Maryland Social Services Committee (www.icomd.org) and Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (www.mcch.net). The organizations take part in the event every month. Menu items served included rice, baked chicken, dinner rolls, salad, pasta/sauce, non-carbonated drinks, and dessert. The volunteers were tasked with preparing tables with the various items and then serving hot cooked meals, drinks, and dessert. Habib and his wife served drinks and desserts. Habib said, “The event was an exceptional experience as we were able to be appreciative for everything that we have, enabling us to better understand our responsibility.” The West Virginia Iota Chapter at American Military University/American Public University is sponsored by Professor Allison G. S. Knox. Knox also serves on the Pi Gamma Mu International Board of Trustees as the Chancellor for the southeast region. Under Knox’s guidance, the chapter started a service project last June in which donations were collected for distribution to a homeless shelter in the Washington D.C. area. The project served as the inspiration for Pi Gamma Mu’s current National Service Project in which chapters are asked to start a donation box for a shelter in their area.
