Mark your calendars!  We are thrilled to announce that the 2020 Pi Gamma Mu Triennial International Convention will be held in Washington DC.  Convention events will begin on Thursday, November 12, 2020 and will continue through Saturday, November 14, 2020.  Events will include student paper presentations, a student Leadership Development Program (registration required), chapter and student poster presentations, a keynote address, a welcome reception, an awards ceremony, roundtable and panel discussions, student elections, and more!

MARYLAND THETA AWARDS TRAVEL GRANTS TO GRADUATING MEMBERS

The Maryland Theta Chapter at the University of Maryland University College is pleased to announce the winners of its 2018 Travel Grants.  The two travel grants ($300 each) are awarded to graduating Maryland Theta members who plan to travel at least 100 miles to attend a commencement ceremony.

MEMBERSHIP IN PI GAMMA MU OPENS DOORS FOR MEMBER OF THE NEW YORK IOTA CHAPTER

Viviana DeCohen joined the New York Iota Chapter at Mercy College on May 6, 2016.  She recently wrote to Pi Gamma Mu headquarters to share how being a member of the Society has encouraged and pushed her to greater heights.  DeCohen applied and become a McNair Scholar at the College.  The Mercy College McNair Scholars Program began in 1995 and targets low-income, first-generation students and those who are from groups underrepresented in graduate education. The purpose of the program is to provide enriching experiences that prepare eligible students for doctoral study.  DeCohen went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Health Management from Mercy College.

KANSAS THETA CELEBRATES 45TH YEAR AND NEW INITATES

The Kansas Theta Chapter at Newman University celebrated its 45th anniversary and inducted 43 new members on Sunday, April 24, 2018. 

A LETTER TO NEW CHAPTER MEMBERS FROM WEST VIRGINIA IOTA CHAPTER PRESIDENT

I would like to start by saying welcome! My name is Whitney Welsh Gibbs and I am the Pi Gamma Mu West Virginia Iota Chapter President. I am honored to have the opportunity to congratulate you on being accepted into such a diverse group of outstanding individuals with a shared love for the social sciences. This achievement recognizes just how dedicated you have been in your academic studies throughout your time at the AMU/APU and indicates the truly outstanding success you have had in your academic pursuit.

CHAPTER ANNUAL REPORTS DUE AUGUST 15

Chapter annual report forms are due on August 15.  Many chapters have already sent in their forms and we thank you.  If you have not sent in your chapter's form, it is not too late.  The form is available on our Website. We appreciate each Chapter Faculty Sponsor taking the few minutes to complete and return this report.

NEBRASKA DELTA WELCOMES LARGEST GROUP OF INITIATES IN ITS HISTORY

The Nebraska Delta Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu at Wayne State College welcomed its largest group of initiates in its history at an April 19, 2018 ceremony.

UPDATES FROM THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL SCIENCE REVIEW

The International Social Science Review is saying good-bye to one of our most dedicated team members, our book review editor, Linda Ullman-Petrash.  Over the last four years, Linda curated an always-fascinating selection of books to be reviewed, while overseeing a cadre of dedicated reviewers.  Her insight and knowledge will be greatly missed.  However, the ISSR is excited to welcome a team of three new books review editors.

ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETIES

Pi Gamma Mu is one of 69 members of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the authority on standards and definitions for the honor society movement. ACHS has stepped up efforts to alert the higher education community to the standards of traditional honor societies. In contrast, some new so-called honor societies exist only online and allow self-nomination, accepting fees with no questions asked. If in doubt about an organization, you can check out the ACHS website (www.achsnatl.org) for the list of honor societies that are members.

Pi Gamma Mu communicates with its lifetime members via email. Anytime your email address changes, such as after graduation or when you change jobs, please notify the Pi Gamma Mu office immediately. This will prevent your emails from being interrupted or discontinued. Simply email your new email address to [email protected] or go to our Web site (www.pigammamu.org) to change your address information. We will need both your old email address and your new email address to update our records. Thank you very much for taking a few minutes to keep your information current.
