TRIENNIAL CONVENTION AND OPPORTUNITY FROM THE PRESIDENT'S VANTAGEThe Triennial Convention provides a highly significant event in the "life" of Pi Gamma Mu, marking both the end of a three-year cycle and the beginning of a new one. At this unique juncture, the Triennial offers multiple opportunities for Pi Gamma Mu members. Having had the great fortune of attending every Triennial since the first at Tampa/St Petersburg in 1987, I want to offer for your consideration some of the opportunities for both students and faculty members. Academic: Students have the opportunity to present a paper. Your paper presentation, representing your scholarly activities, shared with your peers is a microcosm of the academic world. You can proudly add your presentation to your resume. All participants, presenters and audience, engage in this very important academic process. Chapter Development: Students and sponsors alike have the opportunity to benefit from the sessions that focus on chapters. Sessions led by sponsors and students from successful chapters will provide fresh ideas that you can take back to your campus to reinvigorate your chapter. Social: Attendees have the opportunity to meet Pi Gamma Mu members from our great variety of chapters--and all from the social sciences! You can share the joy of collegiality of like-minded colleagues--students and faculty. From the beginning to the end, whether it is on-site or during off-site adventures, you will enjoy the company of other attendees. Visit a New City: Attendees can enjoy the opportunity to visit Charleston, a historically significant southern city. As a visitor, you will experience all the stimulation of a new social and physical setting. Organizational Engagement: All have the opportunity to engage in the "business" of Pi Gamma Mu. You can watch the close of one three year cycle and participate in planning and setting the course for the new cycle. Truly, these opportunities offer something for everyone. I look forward to our time in Charleston, sharing the experiences with other members, as we all work together to realize our Ideals and promote the mission of Pi Gamma Mu. I hope to see you there! C. Laurence (Larry) Heck
