CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER

Dr. Claudia GeerDr. Claudia Geer, chapter sponsor of the Kansas Alpha chapter at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kans., was selected by the students to receive the Student Government Association's citation as Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year. Each year members are encouraged to choose recipients who best enable students to achieve their full potential. "We felt that Claudia has done a lot for SC students, and with her retirement, it would be best to honor her any way that we could," said Jordy Train, president of the SGA. Outstanding faculty members have been honored in this manner since 1966.

Dr. Geer retired from teaching at the end of this past semester. She and her husband have moved to California to be closer to their family.

Cheryl RudeDr. Cheryl Rude, chair of the Social Science Department at Southwestern College and co-sponsor of the Kansas Alpha chapter, has been chosen to replace Dr. Geer as the chapter sponsor. Dr. Rude was selected as a 2012 Engaged Faculty Fellow by the Kansas Campus Compact. She will receive a $6000 grant to support efforts to integrate service learning and civic engagement into her teaching and research. She directs the Master of Science in Leadership Studies Program, facilitates workshops and training for student groups and professional associations and develops and publishes leadership education curricula.

Dr. Yongsheng Wang has been promoted to the rank of associate professor and awarded tenure. Dr. Wang is the chapter sponsor of the Pennsylvania Alpha Omicron chapter at Washington & Jefferson College and chancellor of the Northeast Region of Pi Gamma Mu.
